Nothing is more important to us than keeping OnBase users
up and running. That’s why we want to arm you with all the information
you need to know about the release of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9).
It’s important that you and your organization realize that IE9 is a
significant change to Internet Explorer and that it will impact
existing applications, including OnBase. To see a list of modules that
do and do not work with IE9, please take a look at our Product Functionality Grid.
Because of the changes Microsoft has made, previous versions of OnBase may not be compatible with IE9.
By preparing for the release of IE9, you will be able to
proactively prevent any problems with your applications, including
OnBase.

What do I need to know about IE9?
Microsoft officially released IE9 on 12 a.m. on Tuesday, March
15 ET (Monday, March 14, 9 p.m. PT), and is rolling it out to Vista
and Windows 7 users as a critical update. You should make a plan to do
address it as soon as possible. You should know that IE9 is coming soon
and should make a plan to address it. This plan should include
exploring how IE9 will affect OnBase and your other applications.
Should IE9 go out as an automatic update to users in your organization
without a plan in place, it could cause critical application downtime.
To help handle the upgrade or prevent it, please review the resources
Hyland is providing.
What are the changes in IE9?
IE9 is different than any browser before it and with it
comes multiple changes from IE8 and before. The biggest one affecting
OnBase is the way IE9 executes scripts. Microsoft reports that the
scripting engine in IE9 is much improved, making it much faster. (To
get technical, Microsoft says the IE9 Release Candidate completes the
WebKit SunSpider benchmark in 209ms. This is 3.5 seconds faster than
IE8.)
To do make IE9 so much faster, Microsoft had to make
significant changes the script engine. These changes could affect custom
code and we recommend working with your Solution Provider or Account
Manager to look into this.
For Developers, check out the Microsoft IE9 Compatibility Cookbook for Developers, which includes breaking changes, deprecated functions and developer guides.
What will happen to my OnBase solution if I deploy IE9 without upgrading OnBase?
If users are on the OnBase Web Server from 8.2 or prior, OnBase will
not work. Users will not be able to log in. If users are on the Web
Server from 9.0, 9.2 or 10.0, users will find that OnBase works with
limitations. For example, Workflow and Folders will definitely not
work. For compatibility, organizations must upgrade to the 11.0 OnBase
Web Server. To see a list of modules that do and do not work with IE9,
please take a look at our Product Functionality Grid.
What is Hyland doing to address the upgrade?
Hyland Software is extensively testing the OnBase product
suite with IE9 and has made a commitment to making OnBase 11.0
compatible with IE9. Hyland will provide a pre-release version of the
11.0 OnBase Web Server shortly after Microsoft officially releases IE9.
Please note this pre-release IE9 compatible version will only work on
IE9 (not IE7 or IE8) and will not support a few modules (most likely
Collaboration, DKT and Workflow).
What should I do about IE9?
You have a few choices when it comes to IE9 and OnBase:
If you want to upgrade to IE9, but not necessarily right away:
Hyland recommends customers hold off on upgrading to IE9
right away for a few reasons. First and foremost, OnBase will most
likely not be the only application affected by the upgrade and
customers should fully test all of their applications to ensure they
are compatible with IE9. In addition, OnBase 11 (scheduled for release
in early summer 2011) will be fully supported on IE7, IE8 and IE9.
If you want to upgrade to IE9 immediately:
Hyland will release the OnBase Pre –Release IE9 Compatible
version very shortly after IE9 is officially released. Customers will
have to upgrade the database as well as add an OnBase 11 Web Server and
App Server. The IE9 compatible version will only have a limited set of
modules supported. It will not support IE7 or IE8. Most customers will
have to run a mixed environment to accommodate all users.
They do not plan on upgrade to IE9:
If customers do not plan on upgrading to IE9 within their
organization, and can control the distribution of IE9 (including those
members who work from their home computers), no immediate action is
needed.
If I don’t want to upgrade to IE9, can I stop it from going out to my users?
Yes. Microsoft has released a toolkit to disable the automatic delivery of IE9.
